At the same time it is pointed out by

Hong Kong Government that the two wrecks "Simferopol"

and "viretroi" are deteriorating fast, that they have,

however, a scrap value, but that the long-the delay

the less this value becomes. They therefore propose

that the agreement of the Soviet Government be sought

to the sale of the two wrecks by the Hong Kong Government

and to the deduction from the proceeds of that Governen i

expenses up to the date of sale.

The expenses involved amount to H.K.5,002.80

(£312.138.6d) in respect of the "svirstroi" for the

period 1st January 1947 to 31st ✅arch 1948 and H.K.A,362

(85, 28, 60.) in respect of the "Sergei Lazo" for the

period lat eptember 1945 to 31st May 1946. (The

"Sergei Lazo" claim is that made in 1947 unchanged,

There is no claim in respect of the "Sergei Lazo" for

the period subsequent to 31st ay 1946 and none in

respect of the "Simferopol" for the period subsequent

to 31st December, 1946. Charges in respect of the

"¿virstroi" subsequent to 31st March 1948 are not yet

known in London.

His majesty's mbassy has the honour to invite

the agreement of the soviet Government to the proposal

outlined above. If, however, the Soviet Government are

nable to agree, His Majesty's Imbassy is instructed tɔ

request that the amount due up to 31st March, 1948

should be remitted through the Anglo-Soviet shipping

Company and the Woscov ¡arodny Bank as in the case of

the cheque just received.
